Alas, as quickly as it began, our holiday is over.   Bags are packed, hotel bill has been paid, and Nell and I are sitting in a coffee shop in Patong Beach killing part of our last few hours in air conditioning surfing the net.

Ordinarily we would be winding down our visit by walking around, but doing so here is a royal pain.  Nearly each and every taxi driver and shop owner tries to stop you and sell you something.  A popular T-shirt for sale here states boldly on the front “No, I don’t want a tuk tuk, a suit, or a f*cking massage!!”.

Our last night in Patong was relatively uneventful.  We did some strolling earlier in the day, then stayed in our room for the night and watched a fantastic tropical lightning storm soak the surrounding area.  Actually we had little choice, as the heavy rains and cloud cover had killed the satellite TV signal for our hotel.  After leaving Koh Lanta, this part of the trip only seemed like a long layover, so the mellow low-key night was not unexpected.

And so comes to the end of this blog, excepting one last post to let all interested parties know that we’ve arrived home safely.  We hope that you’ve enjoyed our interactive holiday postcard.  Once we get settled, we’ll post some of our own pictures on Flickr.
